Biography
Sue Fagalde Lick, a former newspaper editor, has published countless freelance articles, short stories and poems, plus three books on Portuguese Americans: The Iberian Americans, Azorean Dreams, and Stories Grandma Never Told: Portuguese Women in California. Her book Freelancing for Newspapers was published by Quill Driver Books in 2007. Shoes Full of Sand, a memoir, came out in July, 2011. Next up is a book about life as a childless woman.
Sue is a regular contributor to Oregon Coast Today, blogs on writing, childlessness, Portuguese Americans, and life on the Oregon coast and writes poems and essays for a variety of print and online markets.
In addition to her writing, Sue sings and plays guitar, piano, and mandolin, performing at various local venues. She also directs and accompanies the choirs at Sacred Heart Church in Newport, OR.
A native of San Jose, California, she earned her BA in journalism at San Jose State University and worked at numerous community and special-interest newspapers before becoming a full-time freelancer. She earned her MFA in creative writing at Antioch University, Los Angeles in 2003 and has taught workshops in fiction, creative writing, publishing, and writing and selling articles at Oregon Coast Community College, Chemeketa Community College, online privately and for Writing-World.com, and at meetings and conferences sponsored by California Writers Club, Willamette Writers and others.
